David Brinkworth/Music and Art
Welcome to the official David Brinkworth website
Over the last few months it has dawned on me, that I have no online profile, and in these modern times this cannot be a good thing. Therefore.I am hoping that this website will help rectify the situation.
A brief history
From an early age my two loves were music and art.
In the early 1980’s I was in a band called Rendezvous 61 that played a lot of gigs in the Black Country and Stafford area. After that for number of years I sold music at a market stall in Cradley Heath while working in Cradley I met friends and formed The Soil an indie rock band that once did a session for the BBC.
Through illness in 1995 I gave up the selling of music, and returned to college to study art, while there I became interested in performance art, and for the following few years showed work at a number of major galleries and shows around the country. Later I bought music into my performances and began to create sound pieces for a number of unconventional public spaces such as a Launderette a Library and a shoping Mall.
By 2008 I felt I'd taken my artistic practice as far as I could so I stopped making art. As a creative person this was a hard decision, but I felt disillusioned with art in general and the concepts I’d been working with had reached their conclusion.
I stayed in this uncreative mode until 2013,when I was inspired by a friend to write some songs - I wrote a lot in a short space of time, which I then recorded, using piano and voice. Having played this material to a number of friends I was pleasantly surprised by their reaction, and since then I’ve been writing more songs, and currently seriously considering performing live.
